What's The CSR?

May 27, 2026 Leave a message

CSR stands for Corporate Social Responsibility.

At its core, CSR is a business model that helps a company be socially accountable to itself, its stakeholders, and the public. By practicing corporate social responsibility, companies can be conscious of the kind of impact they are having on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental.

CSR initiatives are generally broken down into four categories:

Environmental Responsibility: Focusing on reducing carbon footprints, conserving energy, minimizing waste, and using sustainable materials.

Ethical Responsibility: Ensuring fair labor practices, championing diversity and inclusion, and maintaining fair treatment for all employees, suppliers, and customers.

Philanthropic Responsibility: Donating money, products, or services to local or global charities and supporting community development programs.

Economic Responsibility: Backing all financial decisions with a commitment to do good. It's not just about maximizing profits, but ensuring the operation positively impacts society.

💡 The Evolution: CSR vs. ESG In modern business, you will often hear CSR mentioned alongside ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). While CSR is an internal framework used by a company to guide its culture and purpose (the "why"), ESG provides measurable data and external metrics used by investors to evaluate the company's actual performance and sustainability (the "how").
