Electric Wheelchair Material Selection Guide

Electric Wheelchair Core Material Types and Characteristics
The material of an electric wheelchair directly affects its weight, durability, portability, and price. Currently, the three most popular materials are:

1. Aluminum Alloy

- Advantages: Lightweight (typically 15-25 kg), corrosion-resistant, suitable for frequent transport or outdoor use.

- Disadvantages: Slightly weaker than steel and may deform under long-term loads (recommended load capacity ≤ 120 kg).

- Suitable for: Daily commuting, or users who frequently fold or transport their wheelchair.

2. Carbon Fiber

- Advantages: Strictly lightweight (some models can weigh less than 10 kg), high strength, and excellent impact resistance.

- Disadvantages: Expensive (50%-100% more than aluminum alloy) and difficult to repair.

- Suitable for: Users with a high budget or athletes seeking portability.

3. Steel

- Advantages: High load capacity (up to 150 kg), low cost, and stable structure.

- Disadvantages: Heavy (25-40kg), prone to rust (requires regular maintenance).

- Suitable for: Those with a limited budget or special load-bearing requirements.

Key Parameter Comparison and Selection Recommendations
Based on user needs, consider the following priorities:

1. Lightweight Requirement: Carbon fiber > Aluminum alloy > Steel. If budget is limited, aluminum alloy is a balanced choice.

2. Durability Requirement: Steel > Carbon fiber > Aluminum alloy. For humid environments, a stainless steel frame (such as 304 stainless steel) is recommended.

3. Budget Control: Steel (approximately 2,000-5,000 yuan) < Aluminum alloy (5,000-10,000 yuan) < Carbon fiber (over 15,000 yuan).

Other Material Considerations
- Tire Material: Solid tires are maintenance-free but have poor shock absorption, while pneumatic tires offer increased comfort and require regular inflation.

- Seat Fabric: Breathable mesh is suitable for summer, while waterproof Oxford cloth is easy to clean.

- Professional reference: The US FDA recommends that the frame material of electric wheelchairs must pass the ISO 7176-5 standard test to ensure stability.
